....feeding its chicks
Aquila audax
The ‘Wedgie’ is one of the largest birds of prey in the world and with a wingspan of 2.3m is the largest in Australia. This majestic apex predator can be seen soaring the skies throughout the country. It is easily recognised by its characteristic wedge-shaped long tail..
The adults have no natural predators but are threatened by loss of suitable, undisturbed nesting habitat. They are continuously shot, trapped and poisoned by live-stock owners although it has long been established that they feed mainly on introduced rabbits and hares thus making a major contribution to the health of ecosystems.
Average dimensions of the Wildlings are 65 mm x 45 mm.
