Sarcophilus harrisii
The Tasmanian Devil is one of Australia’s most iconic and charismatic marsupials. Dingo were the major cause of its demise on the mainland so they are now restricted to Tasmania. The destruction of Tasmania’s ancient forests by logging companies seriously endangers the future of these unique creatures.
Their genetic diversity is low which is not helped by their severely restricted range. Their population is ravaged by an aggressive infectious facial cancer which can spread throughout their bodies. Since 1996 their numbers have dwindled by 70%.
Average dimensions of the Wildlings are 65 mm x 45 mm.
