Koala

....with Joey

Phascolarctos cinereus

The iconic Koala is closest related to the Wombat and shares the same feature of a backward-opening pouch. They feed almost exclusively on eucalyptus foliage and would rather starve than eat the ‘wrong’ kind of leaves.

The clearing and destruction of their habitat has put Koalas under enormous pressure. This ‘landscape stress’ has made them vulnerable to various diseases like Chlamydia infections, which causes infertility in females and blindness in both sexes. It is predicted that by 2020 Koala will become extinct in the wild.

Average dimensions of the Wildlings are 65 mm x 45 mm.
