This mouse-sized bat is widely distributed along the east coast from the tip of Queensland down to New South Wales. It is a vital pollinator of tropical and subtropical plants, carrying more pollen than birds and insects. These bats gather nectar from a variety of blossoms with their brush-tipped tongues, at the same time transferring pollen from plant to plant. Pollen caught in their fur is ingested when they groom themselves, providing almost all the protein they need.

Sadly, they often become entangled by bird-netting in orchards
